We don’t start with your space, we start with you.
Interior design is often expected to begin with the visible. Layouts are reviewed, palettes are discussed, and inspirated photos are gathered to define a direction. The focus is on shaping the space as it exists.
At The Yellow Slide, the starting point is less obvious. Before any plans are drawn or materials are considered, we focus on understanding what inspires you, because the most compelling homes are not the result of well executed trends. They are shaped by a clear sense of the person they are designed for.
“Style” is often treated as a shortcut in design conversations, a way to quickly categorize preferences and establish a visual language. While useful in theory, it tends to flatten nuance. Most people do not experience their lives through a single aesthetic. The environments they are drawn to, the spaces where they feel most at ease, and the details they notice tend to be more layered and specific.
A home can align with a particular style and still feel disconnected. What is often missing is not cohesion, but relevance.
I want to understand what inspires YOU. Our design questionnaire is structured to uncover inspiration in a more personal way. Rather than focusing solely on rooms or predefined aesthetics, it explores how you move through your day and what environments resonate with you on a deeper level.
We ask where you feel most like yourself, what kinds of spaces allow you to relax without effort, and what you want your home to support that it currently does not. These responses are not treated as abstract ideas. They are translated directly into the foundation of the design.
A preference for quiet, light filled spaces may inform how we approach layout and visual weight. A desire for ease when hosting can reshape how flow and seating are considered. An affinity for color might be expressed through layering rather than saturation, depending on how it needs to function within the space.
When inspiration is clearly understood, design decisions become more deliberate. Rather than applying a predetermined look, each element is selected in response to how the space needs to feel and function. Materials, proportions, and color are considered in context, not in isolation.
This approach allows the design to remain flexible while still feeling cohesive. It also creates a process that is more efficient, as decisions are guided by a clear point of view rather than constant comparison.
Designing for the Way You Live. In the Greater Seattle area, where light shifts throughout the year and homes are often asked to serve multiple roles, this level of clarity becomes especially important. A well designed space should not only accommodate daily routines, but also support the way you want to experience your home, whether that is through moments of quiet, connection, or energy.
By grounding the design in what inspires you, the result feels less like a finished project and more like a natural extension of your life.
Every project begins with a series of decisions. The quality of those decisions depends on how well the foundation is understood.
At The Yellow Slide, that foundation is not the space itself, it is you. If you are ready to discover more about yourself through your design journey, schedule a 20 min Discovery call with me here https://www.theyellowslide.com/contact
