Hi and welcome to The Yellow Slide!
I am Rutu Patel, space whisperer and creative force behind The Yellow Slide, an interior design studio serving the Greater Seattle area. This studio is a manifestation of my love for all things purposeful, joyful and thoughtfully made for ‘real-life’.
We live a multi-dimensional life, and our homes must keep up with our physical, psychological and emotional needs. Our homes must also celebrate who we are as individuals and be an extension of our personality.
My design is ever-evolving, it is living and personal, creating moments, memories and stories, every passing day.
My design is inclusive, it’s for everyone that lives in the house - parents, kids, pets, plants and grandma!
My design is multi-purpose, for rooms that refuse to do just one thing…think open floor plans, home offices and studios, hobby rooms, family rooms, the catch-all garage, recreation or playrooms, basements, combo rooms (e.g., guest room + den), ADUs, and so much more.
My design is a box of juxtapositions! I am very methodical about my process but always punctuate it with moments of surprise. I mix timeless with trendy, neutrals with patterns, simple with unconventional, and sentimental collectibles with store-bought luxury.
With expertise in human centered design and behavioral sciences, I have a personalized approach to the design process. When you work with The Yellow Slide, you become part of the family, we will have fun, bring amazing ideas to life and build something beautiful together!
I bring with me a breadth and depth of life experiences…
I believe in embracing all of life’s adventures, so I always find myself at the cross-section of different perspectives. I like to see past the obvious, dig a little deeper and get to the essence.
I was born in Jersey City, raised in Mumbai, and have spent the last 18 years in the Pacific Northwest. I bring a cross-cultural lens to my work, rooted in adaptability, curiosity, and an enduring love for spaces that have a back-story.
I took multiple detours in my career before finding my path to interior design. My 16+ year career in info-tech-digital was glorious! That is where I developed a love for structure, problem-solving, and thoughtful systems, skills that now allow me to approach design with both creativity and clarity.
My passion for travel has also shaped my eye, I look to nature for inspiration, people for connection and endless horizons, mountains and starry nights to stay grounded and humble.
As a dog mom, I’m constantly reminded that the best homes aren’t just styled, they’re meant to be enjoyed, shared, and lived in with all the joy and messiness of real life.
I’m also a strength training enthusiast, constantly being reminded that the most meaningful transformations, in homes or in life, take time and happen through thoughtful, disciplined, intentional work.
