Hi and welcome to The Yellow Slide Interior Design. I am Rutu Patel and this studio is a manifestation of my love for all things purposeful, joyful and thoughtfully made for real life.
I believe great homes honor the head and the heart - they are thoughtfully designed, deeply personal and built to evolve with the people who live in them. At The Yellow Slide, I help families uncover the hidden potential in everyday spaces that feel unfinished, disconnected, or no longer suited to the way they live.
I design rooms that refuse to do just one thing - think open floor plans, family rooms, playrooms, home offices and studios, basements, ADUs and guest suites, garages, bedrooms, entryways, living rooms, and other hard-working, multi-purpose spaces. Together, we create homes full of purpose, personality, and possibility.
My approach is thoughtful, collaborative, and clear. I bring design expertise, creative problem-solving, and trusted industry resources to help you make confident decisions and create a cohesive home that feels distinctly yours.
Let’s find your Yellow, and create a home that works beautifully for the life you live.

My design philosophy…
A home should not stay stagnant while life changes. I design spaces with the flexibility to support new routines, growing families, changing priorities, and all the chapters still to come.
My design evolves with life
Every choice should solve something and say something. I combine thoughtful planning with color, contrast, collected pieces, and moments of surprise to create a home that works beautifully and feels unmistakably yours.
My design pairs purpose with personality
My design makes every square foot work harder
For hard working everyday spaces, I create clear zones, thoughtful flow, useful storage, and visual connection so your home can support this season of life.
Good design considers different ages, routines, personalities, abilities, pets, guests, and future needs. The goal is a home where everyone feels comfortable, supported, and connected.
My design considers everyone
I bring with me a breadth and depth of life experiences…
I believe in embracing all of life’s adventures, so I always find myself at the cross-section of different perspectives. I like to see past the obvious, dig a little deeper and get to the essence.
I was born in Jersey City, raised in Mumbai, and have spent the last 18 years in the Pacific Northwest. I bring a cross-cultural lens to my work, rooted in adaptability, curiosity, and an enduring love for spaces that have a backstory.
I took multiple detours in my career before finding my path to interior design. My 16+ year career in info-tech-digital was glorious! That is where I developed a love for structure, problem-solving, and thoughtful systems, skills that now allow me to approach design with both creativity and clarity.
My passion for travel has also shaped my eye, I look to nature for inspiration, people for connection and endless horizons, mountains and starry nights to stay grounded and humble.
As a dog mom, I’m constantly reminded that the best homes aren’t just styled, they’re meant to be enjoyed, shared, and lived in with all the joy and messiness of real life.
I’m also a strength training enthusiast, constantly being reminded that the most meaningful transformations, in homes or in life, take time and happen through thoughtful, disciplined, intentional work.
